Diagnostic Assessments to Identify ADHD and/or Autism Neurodivergence
Comprehensive ADHD/Autism Assessments for Adults
I am committed to and passionate about helping others come to a deeper understanding of themselves. The assessment process is one way this can be achieved. I find that often people come to me after questioning things about themselves for months or even years. Together we can piece together your story to help you further understand who you are. Often having a greater understanding of yourself creates opportunities in life and can provide you with the information you need to life your best life!
My interview process is in accordance with the current Australian assessment and diagnostic guidelines for ADHD (developed by the aadpa). I follow a structured process that is thorough and uses validated measures and an interview format. My aim is to ensure an accurate understanding of your experiences, and provide you with knowledge to empower you, including what your next steps are, and recommendations for further support. Often people feel a bit nervous in the first appointment, but this settles quickly.
-
An assessment can help to clarify what you are experiencing and provide you with a diagnosis. A diagnosis is valuable to inform decision making, treatment, and other support moving forward.
While a diagnosis may not be necessary (for your aims), it can be a richly beneficial tool in your kit of understanding your unique self.
If you have any concerns about a diagnosis being made, I encourage you to raise this with me when we meet so that we can discuss your concerns.
-
I have an interest in assessing individuals who may have escaped an earlier diagnosis or have received a diagnosis that doesn’t seem to represent their full experience. Often this is because your experiences may not seem to ‘fit’ a traditional picture or have been explained away as something else (e.g generalised anxiety, or major depressive disorder etc). Often other diagnoses can present or mask the presence of neurodivergence making it complex to diagnose.
Gaining the correct diagnosis requires a thorough assessment and considering the possibility of co-occurring symptom constellations. If other potential diagnoses are evident (perhaps in addition to ADHD or Autism), every effort will be made to provide you with information about what I believe you may be experiencing and guidance for how you can gain clarification on this.
-
Assessments are conducted via telehealth, or if you are located in the South Burnett region face-to-face in Kingaroy, Qld.
Appointments are generally available via telehealth on Mondays, Tuesdays or Wednesdays (Wednesdays are also in person in Kingaroy).
-
Typically, the assessment process takes 4-5 hours, and in addition to this you will need to complete a few questionnaires (and have a family member or friend complete one on your behalf).
The assessment process begins with an initial appointment to explore your presenting concerns, and to determine if proceeding with a full assessment with be suitable.
You will then attend two structured interview sessions (and 3-4 for an Autism assessment), and finally a follow up appointment is recommended where we will discuss the outcome of your assessment and your next steps which may be therapeutic support or medication treatment.
Please note – if you choose medication support you will require a referral from your GP to see a Psychiatrist. Psychologists are unable to provide you with a referral or to prescribe medication.
-
If you are interested in continuing for therapy support following your assessment, depending on availability I may be able to offer psychological support.
Psychological support for ADHD or Autism can take a number of forms and will often include psychoeducation to help you understand your diagnosis and practical management strategies for everyday living to support better organisation, improve memory retention and to strengthen your emotional regulation or to better understand your unique neurodivergent profile.
It is not uncommon for those with ADHD or Autism to struggle with co-occuring anxiety, depression, low self-esteem or other mental health challenges which can be best supported through evidence based psychological therapy.
Online & In-Person Therapy for Adults
I work with clients via telehealth (video or phone), and in person sessions at Kingaroy.
I work with individuals from 18 years of age with a range of complex challenges such as anxiety and depression, panic disorder, trauma and PTSD, and self or interpersonal issues. I have a special interest in working with individuals who have experienced trauma and may have PTSD.
I also enjoy depth work which can include talking through experiences in childhood, noticing what is happening between us in the room or exploring patterns of behaviour or unexamined motivations.
This work is often helpful to address issues of the self and may draw upon a psychodynamic or schema approach and attachment theory, which can help to explain the difficulties that arise within the self and within interpersonal relationships.
I also assess individuals for ADHD and Autism and may continue in therapy with them (if requested, and I am available).

Over the years, I have worked across of range of settings; with students in a university setting, in the corporate setting with adults encountering workplace challenges, bullying and stress, and in a large community-based clinic with individuals experiencing more severe mental health issues.
My experience also spans several years of teaching in the fields of counselling/psychology and theology, and in research programs. I have experience working with adults with a range of presentations such as depression, generalised anxiety disorder, panic disorder, relationship and personal challenges such as difficulties with self-esteem, confidence and perfectionism.
Additionally, I have post-graduate training in Trauma-Focused CBT and have worked with clients experiencing PTSD and complex trauma. I use a range of evidence-based therapies in my practice, including psychodynamic therapy, CBT, TF-CBT, Schema Therapy, EMDR and others listed.
I value the therapeutic relationship and focus on building a sense of rapport and safety with my clients. Therapy can allow you the space to explore your thoughts and emotions and to understand yourself better with the support of your psychologist. It is often within this setting I find that deep and notable change can occur.
My approach can be described as warm, intuitive, reflective, adventurous and practical. I aim to assist clients to notice, explore and move through areas causing pain and a stalemate to a new place of insight, and strength.
